Following the climax of the story of Dagda Sargeant Flanaghan is retired, Steele is promoted to Lieutenant and decorated by the Mayor publicly. Privately Steele is an awkward embarrassment the Mayor wants rid of. Dan Knight has a solution for the Mayor put him out on the Turnpike to deal with the new menace, the motorcar! King City's Highway Patrol is born to a fanfare of press pictures with their new Model A Ford. Sargeant Monaghan, with his son rides "Shotgun" for him joins Steele. Officers Reilly and Sloane go with Steele. The Chiefs department orders Steele to the City Limits, youcan do what you want but not in anyone elses Precinct, Dan Knight has other ideas. The new State Turnpike runs East, rising up to Carburry Hill, the Summit marking the City Limits, it's a long pull upfrom Vice Alley. A car parked up there has a great view of traffic coming their way, its a spot that sees some reckless driving from frustrated drivers and a daily fender bender. There...
